In January 1965, Billy Kluver took me to Bell Laboratories in New Jersey. For the first time, I saw a laser-beam in space. My mind of perception changed. Here was the tool that cut with all tradition!

At the same time, I felt familiar with the coherent light. It looked like a halo of Leonardo, but straightened to infinity as his Saints had given up their monopoly on sacredness, for we profane artists. What a chance.

Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd spoke in Defining Traditions 1969 - 1996 and was presented with a lifetime achievement award for his outstanding contribution to the field of creative holography
